The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday directed that no coercive action be taken against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak without prior permission until the next hearing on Monday, after the Punjab government gave an assurance before the court.

The matter came up before a bench headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu , where Pathak challenged the alleged registration of two FIRs against him by the Punjab Police.

Pathak, who recently defected from the Aam Aadmi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party, sought directions to the Punjab government and police to disclose complete details of the FIRs, including case numbers, registration dates and police stations involved .

According to the petition, the MP learned about the FIRs through media reports and informal channels, but despite repeated efforts, the authorities did not provide any official information. The plea also alleged that the FIRs were not uploaded on the Punjab Police website, calling it a violation of mandatory disclosure rules .

Describing the move as a case of “political vendetta,” the petition claimed the concealment of the FIR details was a deliberate attempt to target him after his political switch.

The case has added to the growing political tensions following a major setback to AAP last month, when seven of its 10 Rajya Sabha MPs resigned and later merged with the BJP. The rebel MPs alleged that the party under Arvind Kejriwal had drifted away from its founding principles and values .
