A major recruitment drive has been announced by the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), with the public sector steel manufacturer inviting online applications for 124 Management Trainee (Technical) posts across seven engineering disciplines. The application process has been activated from 15 November and will remain open until 5 December 2025, according to the official notification issued on Saturday.

The vacancies have been distributed across Chemical (5), Civil (14), Computer (4), Electrical (44), Instrumentation (7), Mechanical (30) and Metallurgy (20) engineering streams. Interested candidates have been advised to submit their applications exclusively through the SAIL career portals sail.co.in or sailcareers.com.

Eligibility and Age Requirements

As per the notification, applicants must hold a B.E./B.Tech degree with a minimum of 65% marks, calculated as an average of all semesters. The upper age limit has been fixed at 28 years as of December 5, 2025, with candidates born earlier than 5 December 1997 being ineligible.

For departmental candidates, the upper age limit has been relaxed to 45 years. Additional category-based relaxations will be granted following government norms.

Attractive Salary Structure

SAIL has announced a competitive pay package for the newly inducted Management Trainees. The selected candidates will receive a basic pay of ₹50,000 per month during the training period, within a scale of ₹50,000–1,60,000. Upon successful completion of the one-year training programme, they will be appointed as Assistant Managers (E1 Grade) in the revised pay scale of ₹60,000–1,80,000.

In addition to basic pay, trainees will be entitled to Dearness Allowance, cafeteria-based perquisites, provident fund, gratuity, leave encashment, housing/HRA, and free medical benefits for themselves and their dependents. The annual Cost to Company (CTC) at the E1 grade has been estimated at ₹16–17 lakh, excluding Performance-Related Pay and location-linked allowances.

Selection Process to Begin with CBT in Early 2026

The recruitment will be carried out through a multi-stage selection process. A Computer-Based Test (CBT) will be conducted tentatively in January–February 2026, across exam centres in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Kolkata and Lucknow.

The CBT will carry 200 marks, split into two sections: a 100-mark Domain Knowledge Test (40 minutes) and a 100-mark Aptitude Test (80 minutes), covering Quantitative Aptitude, English, Reasoning and General Awareness. To qualify for the next stage, candidates must achieve the minimum percentile requirement in each part: 50 percentile for UR/EWS and 40 percentile for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwBD categories.

Candidates who clear the CBT will be shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio for the Group Discussion and Interview rounds. The final selection will be based on a combined score, with 75% weightage for CBT, 10% for Group Discussion, and 15% for the Interview. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to those with higher marks in the CBT, followed by marks obtained in the qualifying degree.

Application Process and Instructions

Applicants have been instructed to apply only through the online mode. No offline or alternative method will be accepted. Before beginning the application, candidates must ensure that they meet all eligibility criteria and follow the steps detailed in the user manual available on the careers portal.

SAIL has clarified that registration will remain provisional until all documents and eligibility details are verified during the GD/Interview stage. Applications may be cancelled at any stage if any incorrect or misleading information is detected.

Fees and Important Dates

The application fee has been fixed at ₹1,050 for General, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates, while SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-servicemen and departmental candidates will be charged ₹300. All payments must be made online.

Important Dates:

• Start of online application: 15 November 2025

• Last date to apply: 5 December 2025

• CBT (tentative): January–February 2026

With one of the most anticipated PSU recruitment drives underway, engineering graduates across the country are expected to apply in large numbers. Further updates, including exam schedules and call letters for the GD/Interview rounds, will be published on SAIL’s official websites.
