Filming for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD has officially begun in Hyderabad, marking the next chapter of one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious sci-fi franchises.

The new schedule commenced in the Shankarpally area on the outskirts of the city, with veteran stars Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan being the first to report to the sets. Bachchan reprises his role as the immortal warrior Ashwatthama, while Haasan continues as the antagonist Supreme Yaskin. Key dramatic sequences featuring the two characters are currently being filmed.

Directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the sequel builds on the massive success of the original film, which crossed the ₹1,000 crore mark at the global box office. The franchise is known for its distinctive blend of Hindu mythology and dystopian science fiction, set in a futuristic world shaped by ancient prophecies.

Lead star Prabhas is expected to join the shoot in the coming weeks once he completes commitments to his other projects. Meanwhile, actress Sai Pallavi has reportedly completed a look test and is being considered for a prominent role in the sequel.

Sources suggest the new character could replace the arc previously portrayed by Deepika Padukone in the first installment, signaling a possible shift in the narrative focus as the story expands.

With principal photography now underway and the core cast gradually assembling, expectations are high for the sequel to surpass the scale and spectacle of its predecessor. Further details on the storyline and release timeline are expected to be announced in the coming months.
