Sai Baba birth centenary - President Murmu, PM Modi to join global devotees at Prasanthi Nilayam

Puttaparthi is gearing up for one of the biggest spiritual milestones of the decade as President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the birth centenary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba at Prasanthi Nilayam in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister will arrive on November 19, while the President will reach on November 22, a day before the spiritual master’s 100th birth anniversary on November 23. Born Sathyanarayana Raju on November 23, 1926, on the banks of the Chitravathi River, Sathya Sai Baba transformed this remote village into a global centre of spiritual awakening. His teachings of universal love, selfless service, and the unity of all faiths continue to guide millions globally, even 14 years after he attained Mahasamadhi on April 24, 2011. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the celebrations on November 19 and President Droupadi Murmu on November 22,” an official statement confirmed.

The Andhra Pradesh government has declared the celebration a state event and directed all departments to ensure flawless execution. With over 10 lakh devotees expected during the peak centenary days, the administration has strengthened traffic management systems, deployed medical camps, launched sanitation drives under the Swachh Puttaparthi initiative, and installed temporary public facilities and support infrastructure across Sri Sathyasai district. To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, Indian Railways will operate 65 special trains to Puttaparthi between November 13 and December 1, connecting devotees from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and other states. Over 20 buses will additionally operate between the railway station and Prasanthi Nilayam to support the flow of devotees arriving for the celebrations.

The Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSSIO), operating across more than 120 countries for over five decades, is leading the year-long commemorations. The 11th World Conference of SSSIO from November 20 to 22 will include panel discussions, cultural segments, youth-led spiritual activities, and screenings of iconic discourses. Ladies’ Day on November 19 will mark the formal spiritual beginning of the week of celebrations leading up to the grand centenary on November 23. Meanwhile, Sathya Sai Baba’s vision lives on not just in devotion but in nation-building and humanitarian impact from the Sri Sathya Sai Water Project that brought drinking water to lakhs of people in drought regions like Anantapur, to free pediatric heart surgeries through Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals, to universities cultivating value-based education.

As gates, welcome arches, lights and spiritual decorations illuminate Puttaparthi, the centenary stands not only as a historic remembrance but as a global message to live the core human values of truth, righteousness, peace, love and non-violence.
