Sahith Theegala, Aaron Rai Set for Wyndham Championship as FedEx Cup Playoffs Beckon

Indian-origin golfers Sahith Theegala and Aaron Rai are set to tee off at the Wyndham Championship, the final regular-season event of the 2026 PGA Tour, as they look to strengthen their positions ahead of the FedExCup Playoffs. Meanwhile, Akshay Bhatia and Sudarshan Yellamaraju have opted to skip the tournament and rest before the postseason, with all four players currently placed inside the Top 70 standings.

The FedExCup Playoffs begin with the top 70 players before the field is reduced to 50 for the second event and 30 for the season-ending Tour Championship.

The 28-year-old Theegala has enjoyed a remarkable revival this season after injuries disrupted his 2025 campaign and forced him to miss the playoffs for the first time. Having regained full fitness, he has produced several impressive results, including top-10 finishes at The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the Texas Children's Houston Open, along with a T11 finish at the U.S. Open. He also heads into the week with added motivation as he prepares for his upcoming wedding.

Aaron Rai, currently 35th in the FedExCup standings, returns to a venue where he claimed the 2024 Wyndham Championship title. The reigning PGA Championship winner, who became the first Indian-origin golfer to win a men's major, will be grouped with Tom Kim and J.T. Poston in the opening round, while Theegala will play alongside Jackson Koivun and Hideki Matsuyama.

The tournament also carries major playoff implications for several leading names. Rising star Jackson Koivun occupies the final qualifying spot, while experienced campaigners Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau, and Mac Meissner face a crucial week as they battle to secure their places in the FedExCup Playoffs.
