SAEL’s 600 MW Solar Venture Goes Live in Jammalamadugu

Andhra Pradesh took a major leap in the renewable energy sector with the inauguration of a massive 600-megawatt solar power project in T. Konduru village of YSR Kadapa district’s Jammalamadugu constituency. The project was launched by state IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh, who described it as a key milestone in the state’s clean energy and industrial growth journey.

Developed by SAEL Industries Limited, the project was completed in a record 11 months with an investment of nearly ₹3,000 crore . The facility consists of two 300-megawatt units — SAEL Solar MHP 1 and MHP 2 — making it one of the largest solar installations in the region.

Spread across more than 2,400 acres , the integrated solar park is expected to provide long-term economic support to around 760 farmer families through land lease agreements extending up to 25 years. Officials said the two units began commercial operations on January 30 and March 13 respectively.

The project uses over 1.2 million advanced TOPCon bifacial solar modules, many of which were manufactured at SAEL’s facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan. Electricity generated from the plant will be supplied to the national grid under a 25-year agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India.

Experts estimate the facility could reduce nearly 1.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year, significantly contributing to environmental sustainability and India’s clean energy transition.

Lokesh said the project reflects Andhra Pradesh’s growing focus on innovation-driven industrial development. He added that the government is working to attract large-scale investments in sectors such as green energy, electronics, software, drones, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing under its broader industrial expansion strategy.
