Russia’s eastern coast was shaken early Saturday by a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake near the Kamchatka Peninsula, marking another significant seismic event in the region. The quake’s epicenter was 111.7 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 39 km, according to the US Geological Survey.
This comes months after Kamchatka experienced five major quakes in July 2025, including one measuring 7.4 magnitude, highlighting the region’s persistent seismic activity.
