Russian missile and drone attacks struck Kyiv and several other Ukrainian regions early on Saturday, November 7, injuring at least five people in the capital and damaging energy infrastructure, homes and commercial properties. The strikes came just days before Ukraine, Russia and the United States are scheduled to hold fresh peace talks in Abu Dhabi.

According to Ukrainian authorities, the overnight attacks disrupted electricity, heating and water supplies in Kyiv. Several energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions were damaged, while traffic was suspended on a bridge across the Dnipro River.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones during the assault, hitting Kyiv and 12 other regions. Only four missiles were intercepted, he said, highlighting Ukraine's shortage of air defence interceptors. At least nine people were injured across the country.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the situation with the capital's energy supply as extremely difficult, warning that damage to energy facilities had affected heating and water systems.

Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed targeting the Northern Bridge in Kyiv, claiming it was being used to transport weapons and military equipment for Ukrainian forces. Moscow also said it struck an industrial facility allegedly involved in producing Flamingo cruise missiles, along with power stations, electrical substations and ammunition-related facilities.

Meanwhile, rescue operations continued in Komyshuvakha village in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region, where Russian guided bombs struck a former school being used as an aid distribution centre and shelter on Monday. The death toll rose to 55, with two more bodies recovered on Saturday. Dozens of people remain missing.

The latest strikes came ahead of the next round of US-brokered negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. US envoy Steve Witkoff said discussions would focus on post-war security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian measures and ending the war. The meeting will be the fourth round of negotiations brokered by the Trump administration, following the previous round in Geneva in February.
