Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit India on May 14–15 to attend the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, the Russian Foreign Ministry has announced. The visit comes as part of a full-format ministerial meeting under India’s BRICS presidency , themed around strengthening cooperation and resilience among member states.

The meeting will bring together foreign ministers from BRICS countries, including Brazil, China and South Africa, along with representatives from partner nations participating in select sessions. Discussions are expected to focus on global governance reforms, multilateral cooperation, and key international challenges .

During the visit, Lavrov will hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, covering the full spectrum of India-Russia relations , including trade, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation. The talks will also review upcoming engagements and preparations for meetings of the intergovernmental commission.

The visit builds on recent diplomatic engagement, including a telephonic conversation between Lavrov and Jaishankar last month on regional developments and bilateral ties. It is also expected to contribute to shaping the agenda and draft outcomes for the 18th BRICS summit scheduled in New Delhi in September, where Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to participate.

The BRICS grouping has expanded in recent years to include new members such as Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, the UAE and Indonesia, reflecting its growing global footprint. Lavrov’s visit comes amid broader efforts to deepen cooperation within the bloc and strengthen engagement with the Global South.
