Russia displays Su-57E Aerobatics, unveils new defence systems at air show
Russia showcased its most advanced military technology at the Dubai Air Show 2025, drawing global attention with the aerobatic display of its fifth-generation stealth fighter, the Su-57E. The aircraft performed aerial manoeuvres demonstrating agility, stealth capabilities and advanced radar-evading design, marking its most prominent international appearance to date.
Russia also unveiled a wide range of new defence systems, including modern air defence platforms, drones, combat helicopters, trainer aircraft and missile systems. The exhibit featured the Pantsir-SMD-E air defence system, portable Verba missile units and various combat-proven drones such as the Lancet loitering munition and Orlan surveillance systems. According to officials, this was Russia’s largest-ever full-scale display of defence equipment at a foreign exhibition.
The Su-57E, equipped with next-generation engines and the ability to carry advanced air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, is being pitched as an export-ready option for countries seeking an alternative to Western stealth aircraft. Russian firms are also offering technology transfer and co-production packages to attract international buyers.
The Dubai Air Show, one of the world’s premier aviation and defence exhibitions, has drawn participation from over 60 countries this year, including India. India has set up its own pavilion showcasing indigenous defence and aerospace capabilities led by public sector companies like HAL, DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace. The Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran aerobatic team is also performing at the event, highlighting India's growing presence in global aerospace markets.
With the Middle East, Asia and Africa emerging as major defence buyers, Russia’s demonstration is seen as an attempt to strengthen its position in the global arms market and highlight its technological advancements despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.
The air show continues through this week, with more flight demonstrations, international defence deals and industry collaborations expected.
