A major accident was narrowly avoided on Sunday in Kadapa district when an APSRTC bus carrying passengers caught fire after coming into contact with high-tension electric wires on the Vempalli–Rayachoti main road. All passengers escaped unharmed, providing a sigh of relief to onlookers.

Prompt Response by Staff

As the Pallevelugu bus from Kadapa to Vempalli, via Talupula, approached Veerannagattupalli , it hit low-hanging high-tension wires , triggering a sudden blaze inside the vehicle. The driver and conductor immediately stopped the bus and evacuated all passengers. “ Thanks to the timely response, no one was injured, and everyone is safe, ” revealed Pulivendula DSP Murali Naik .

Negligence by Authorities?

Police suspect the incident may have resulted from negligence by the Electricity Department and National Highways authorities . Locals allege that during road-widening works, the contractor failed to raise the height of the overhead wires along with the road. Despite the wires reaching a hazardous level, authorities reportedly took no precautionary measures, contributing to the accident.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway

The fire caused extensive damage to both the bus and the electric line. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation . Inquiry is ongoing, with potential action against the contractor and officials from the concerned departments .
