Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Sunil Ambekar on Sunday said that the Partition of India in 1947 was a consequence of “population imbalance”, while urging attention to demographic concerns in the national interest.

Speaking at a public interaction in Indore marking 100 years of the RSS , Ambekar described population imbalance as a serious societal issue , asserting that changes in demographic composition can affect the identity, unity, and integrity of a region.

“Studies have shown that when the number of people following original traditions declines due to population imbalance, the identity of that place changes and its unity and integrity face challenges,” he said. He further added that such an imbalance was a key factor behind the country’s Partition in 1947 .

Ambekar also flagged illegal infiltration and religious conversions carried out through “force, inducement and deception” as contributing factors to demographic shifts, calling for necessary steps to address these concerns .

Responding to a question on the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, he noted that the proposal has been defeated , but asserted that women are capable of securing their rightful place in public life, adding that their participation in political and social spheres would continue to grow over time.

He also reiterated the concept of Hindutva , describing it as one that emphasises unity and inclusiveness among people.
