R.S. Praveen Kumar to SIT: I’ll Answer Your Notices

Telangana is witnessing a fresh political storm over allegations of phone tapping. BRS leader and former IPS officer Dr. R.S. Praveen Kumar has strongly criticized the state government’s approach and the SIT investigation, raising serious concerns over procedural fairness.

Expressing his protest, Praveen Kumar revealed that SIT officials visited his residence at midnight on Friday within just 12 hours of his public press conference to serve notices, prompting sharp criticism from the former officer.

He alleged that the SIT, under the leadership of Sajjanuar, had been harassing him for hours under the guise of investigation, issuing notices despite senior BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and Harish Rao having no connection to the phone tapping case . The SIT reportedly warned him that failure to respond with evidence within two days could lead to civil and criminal action .

Praveen Kumar emphasized that questioning public grievances and government misconduct is a constitutional right , dismissing any fear of threats or warnings. “I will respond based on the information I have, and the government can act as it pleases afterward,” he said.

During the press briefing, he reiterated key points about phone tapping. He noted that telecommunication surveillance is legally permitted for national security, internal security, and preventing organized crimes, with clear procedural guidelines and multi-level oversight . He questioned the necessity of the SIT investigation in this context.

He also refuted claims that he demanded a separate SIT against Sajjanuar, stating that his comments only referenced cases registered in Andhra Pradesh in 2015 related to Telangana phone tapping. At that time, Sajjanuar had been part of the Telangana intelligence , making his role as SIT chief ethically questionable , according to Praveen Kumar.

Furthermore, he said he had requested SIT probes into multiple corruption cases, including alleged irregularities in the coal scam under the Revanth Reddy government . He criticized targeting specific police officers while exposing sensitive phone tapping issues publicly, calling it dangerous and unfair .

Praveen Kumar questioned the police inaction regarding personal attacks on BRS leaders and reiterated that their struggle would continue against governmental suppression .
