Rs 4.72 crore released for Haryana flood victims

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini announced Rs 4.72 crore in immediate relief for areas affected by recent heavy rains and flooding. Several districts faced severe waterlogging, resulting in crop damage, loss of lives, and property.

The floods impacted thousands of acres of farmland, with around 1.69 lakh farmers registering claims for nearly 10 lakh acres. Crop losses alone could cost the state over ₹1,500 crore in compensation. Property and livestock losses were also reported, with 2,386 families receiving initial assistance for damaged houses and cattle.

Speaking at a press briefing, CM Saini said, “Haryana Govt stands with affected farmers and residents. Rs 4,72,06,000 has been released today through the e-Kshatipurti Portal.” The e-Kshatipurti Portal is an online government platform that enables quick disbursal of compensation and relief funds directly to affected individuals. This early release shows that the state acted swiftly to provide immediate financial support, even as a full damage assessment continues.

In September, the CM visited flood-hit areas in Kurukshetra, including Jharauli Khurd, Tangor, Jhansaa, Thol, and Shanti Nagar villages, to assess crop and property damage firsthand. Officials were directed to expedite relief operations, demonstrating a proactive approach by the state administration.

CM Saini also extended support to Punjab amid floods. He noted that relief arrangements in Punjab are being overseen by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Health Minister JP Nadda. However, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has criticized the Centre's response, labeling the Rs 1,600 crore aid package as "paltry" and alleging that none of the promised funds have been disbursed to date. Cheema also highlighted that Rs 240 crore recently allocated to Punjab was part of its regular budgeted entitlement, not flood-specific aid.

The Centre has emphasized that assistance was provided promptly, with a central team assessing damage even before Punjab submitted its official memorandum. However, Punjab's government has requested a comprehensive financial aid package of Rs 20,000 crore, citing extensive damage and the need for robust recovery efforts.“To the residents and farmer brothers struggling with waterlogging, the state government stands firmly with you,” he tweeted.
