Rs 1 crore jewellery theft cracked in 24 hours, accused arrested in Jugsalai

Police arrested a 23-year-old man within 24 hours of a burglary involving gold and diamond ornaments worth nearly Rs 1 crore from a locked house in the Jugsalai area, officials said on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Sivashish said an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the burglary was reported from a residence on M.E. School Road near Seva Sadan Hospital . The theft occurred during the intervening night of February 1 and 2 .

Following directions from Senior Superintendent of Police (East Singhbhum) Piyush Pandey , a special team led by the Deputy SP (Law and Order) was formed to trace the culprit.

The team launched an intensive investigation, collecting inputs through CCTV footage, local intelligence and deployment of the dog squad to track the suspect’s movement from the crime scene.

Based on a specific tip-off and surveillance analysis , the police team led by Jugsalai police station officer-in-charge Baijnath Kumar conducted a raid and arrested the accused, identified as Ritik Kumar Singh (23) .

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Police recovered 43 stolen items , including gold bracelets, gold and diamond-studded bangles, chains, coins inscribed with ‘Jhansi ki Rani’ , earrings, finger rings, silver coins of different weights and anklets.

Officials described the recovery of valuables worth around Rs 1 crore within 24 hours as a major breakthrough , reflecting swift coordination between field officers and technical surveillance teams.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused had accomplices or links to other burglary cases.
