‘RRR 2’ Viral Video: Is SS Rajamouli Really Bringing Ram Charan And Jr NTR Back?
‘RRR 2’ is suddenly back in the headlines after an old video of Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani discussing the sequel resurfaced on X and Instagram. While fans are treating the clip as a fresh confirmation, the latest buzz needs some clarification.
The viral video is not a recent statement. Keeravani had previously spoken about the possibility of ‘RRR 2’, but the old conversation is now circulating again and being presented as though it were a new update. In that discussion, he also indicated that SS Rajamouli’s immediate priority was his film with Mahesh Babu, which has now become ‘Varanasi’.
However, it would be incorrect to say that ‘RRR 2’ has never been confirmed. In November 2022, SS Rajamouli himself said that he and his father, writer Vijayendra Prasad, had discussed ‘RRR 2’ and that his father was working on the story.
The sequel received another significant update in July 2023. Vijayendra Prasad revealed that he had developed an idea in which the stories of Ram Charan’s Alluri Sitarama Raju and Jr NTR’s Komaram Bheem would continue in Africa. He said Rajamouli liked the idea and asked him to develop it into a full script. At the same time, he made it clear that Rajamouli would not seriously consider the sequel until completing his Mahesh Babu project.
That distinction is crucial now. ‘RRR 2’ has been discussed and developed at the story level, but there is no fresh announcement confirming that the film has entered production, when shooting will begin or that it will be Rajamouli’s immediate next project.
Rajamouli is currently focused on ‘Varanasi’, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
There have also been recent updates on ‘Varanasi’. Keeravani revealed in August that the film will feature six songs, with work on its background score scheduled to begin in September 2026.
Meanwhile, Keeravani has also recently spoken about the enormous expectations surrounding ‘Varanasi’, further indicating where the creative team’s attention currently lies.
Therefore, the viral Keeravani clip should not be treated as a new ‘RRR 2’ announcement. The sequel has a real history of development, and an Africa-set storyline involving Ram Charan and Jr NTR was previously discussed, but its production status, schedule and Rajamouli’s commitment to direct it remain officially unclear.
