Routine Anti-Crime drives intensified in Delhi, Rohini crackdown reflects scaled-up policing

The recent four-day anti-crime drive in Rohini, which led to over 60 arrests, is part of a routine policing strategy regularly undertaken across Delhi, officials said, emphasising that such operations are not unprecedented but reflect intensified enforcement.

According to the Delhi Police, periodic crackdowns often termed “special drives” or “domination exercises” are conducted throughout the year to curb organised and street-level crime. These operations are typically launched ahead of major public events, during festival seasons, or in response to rising incidents of theft, snatching, or illegal activities.

Police sources noted that while similar drives are a standard feature of urban policing, the Rohini operation stood out due to its scale and coordination. Over four days, dozens of teams conducted simultaneous raids across multiple locations, targeting known offenders and criminal networks.

Such drives also include preventive measures, where individuals with prior criminal records or suspected involvement in unlawful activities are monitored or booked under legal provisions to deter potential offences.

Officials said the objective of these recurring operations is to maintain law and order, disrupt illegal networks, and reinforce public safety. The Rohini crackdown, they added, reflects a broader strategy of sustained vigilance rather than a one-time initiative.
