Roma's Bold €35M Gamble! Santiago Castro Arrives Before Champions League Return

Roma have strengthened their squad ahead of their long-awaited UEFA Champions League return by signing promising Argentine striker Santiago Castro from Bologna in a deal reportedly worth €35 million.

The move is one of Roma's biggest signings of the summer as the Italian club looks to build a squad capable of competing both in Serie A and on the European stage after qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in eight seasons.

As part of the agreement, Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbyk has moved in the opposite direction, joining Bologna in a striker swap that reshapes the attacking options of both clubs.

At just 21 years old, Castro has emerged as one of Serie A's brightest young forwards. During his three seasons with Bologna, he scored 22 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions, earning a reputation for his intelligent movement, work rate and finishing ability.

Roma will hope the Argentine can continue his development under head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, whose first season in charge ended with an impressive third-place finish in Serie A and secured the club's return to Europe's elite competition.

Castro will also reunite with fellow Argentines Paulo Dybala and Matias Soulé, adding further South American flair to Roma's attack. The trio is expected to play a key role as the Giallorossi aim to challenge domestically while making a strong impression in the Champions League.
