‘Roi Roi Binale’: Assam’s beloved Zubeen Garg’s last film opens to packed theatres
Emotions ran high across Assam on Friday as Roi Roi Binale (Tears Still Flow) , the final film featuring the late singer, composer and actor Zubeen Garg, hit the big screens to packed audiences. Fans flocked to theatres from the early hours, with the first show starting at 4.25 a.m. in a Guwahati multiplex, marking a heartfelt farewell to one of Assam’s most cherished icons.
Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore last month, was much more than just a musician for the people of Assam. He was a cultural phenomenon. Over the decades, he mesmerised millions with his soulful voice, chart-topping Assamese and Hindi songs, and versatile performances as an actor and filmmaker. His music often echoed the emotions, struggles and dreams of the Assamese youth, making him a voice of an entire generation.
The release of Roi Roi Binale has turned into a celebration of his life and legacy. Theatres across Assam, from Guwahati to Dibrugarh and Jorhat, reported sold-out shows as fans gathered, some carrying flowers and posters, to relive Zubeen’s magic one last time on the big screen.
Directed by Manash Baruah, Roi Roi Binale tells a poignant story of love, loss and redemption, themes that now resonate even more deeply with audiences mourning the artist’s untimely demise. The film has also been released nationwide, giving Zubeen’s admirers across India a chance to bid their final goodbye.
For Assam, this film is not just cinema — it is an emotion, a tribute and a final curtain call for a legend whose voice will continue to echo in the hearts of his people forever.
