Rohit Shetty residence firing case: shooter nabbed in Agra in joint police operation
In a significant breakthrough in the high-profile firing case at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence , a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has led to the arrest of a key accused from Agra.
The accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar alias Gaath, was apprehended on Thursday from the Chhadami Mattha area along the Agra-Etah road under Bah police station limits. Officials said the arrest was made possible through precise technical tracking and coordinated intelligence sharing between the two agencies.
The case traces back to the night of February 1, 2026 , when unidentified assailants opened fire outside ‘Shetty Tower,’ the filmmaker’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area. While no injuries were reported, the incident triggered panic and raised serious concerns over the safety of public figures and the growing audacity of organised gangs targeting the film industry.
Investigations later revealed that the firing was allegedly carried out at the behest of the Shubham Lonkar gang , with the intention to extort money and create fear among film personalities . Police say the attack was part of a larger pattern where criminal groups attempt to assert influence through intimidation.
During interrogation, Pradeep Kumar reportedly admitted his involvement, stating that he, along with associates Sunny, Deepu, and Sonu, participated in the firing to establish “dominance” in the underworld network . Authorities also noted that the accused was influenced by the gang’s active presence on social media platforms , pointing to a troubling overlap between digital visibility and organised crime.
The case has been registered under multiple stringent laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act , reflecting the gravity of the offence.
Pradeep Kumar’s arrest adds to a growing list of accused already in custody. Earlier, eight individuals, including Pradeep Sharma alias Golu, Deepak, and Vishnu Kushwaha, were arrested in connection with the case through coordinated operations.
Following his arrest, the accused was handed over to the Mumbai Police team at the Bah police station and will be taken on transit remand for further investigation and legal proceedings.
