Rohit Sharma reached a major landmark in his ODI career while Shubman Gill smashed a spectacular double century as India completed a record chase against the West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati.

Rohit became only the seventh batter in ODI history and the third Indian to cross 12,000 runs in the format. He reached the milestone in his 282nd ODI innings and then celebrated with his 35th ODI century.

The 39-year-old opener brought up his hundred from just 72 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes. He was eventually dismissed for 101 off 75 balls. It was his second century in three matches at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

Gill, meanwhile, produced the biggest innings of the match. The India captain remained unbeaten on a stunning 223 off 133 balls, with his innings containing 26 fours and eight sixes. It was Gill’s 11th ODI century and second double hundred in the format.

Rohit and Gill added 255 runs for the opening wicket, putting India firmly in control of the chase. India eventually finished on 406 for two in 43.3 overs, beating the West Indies' 405 for seven by eight wickets.

The victory gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and also marked the highest successful chase in ODI cricket.

Rohit’s landmark innings also moved him into an exclusive group alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as the only Indians to cross 12,000 ODI runs. Tendulkar remains the leading ODI run-scorer with 18,426 runs, while Kohli is second on the all-time list.

The Guwahati run-fest was extraordinary at both ends, with three West Indies batters also scoring centuries. The match produced a remarkable combination of huge totals, individual milestones and one of the biggest successful ODI chases.
