RJD Finalises Six Candidates for Bihar Legislative Council Seats

Bihar's opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Friday announced candidates for six of the eight Legislative Council seats where elections are expected to be held later this year.

The elections for the eight constituencies, comprising four teachers' and four graduates' constituencies, are likely to take place before the terms of the existing members expire in mid-November.

According to a list released by the Bihar unit of the RJD, Sanjeev Kumar Singh has been nominated from the Patna teachers' constituency, while Prof Jairam Yadav will contest from the Saran teachers' constituency.

For the graduates' constituencies, the party has fielded Dilip Kumar from Patna, Nitesh Kumar from Koshi, Anil Kumar Jha from Darbhanga, and Rashmi Vinayak Gautam from Tirhut.

The party's decision to announce candidates for six constituencies comes ahead of the expected electoral exercise for the eight seats. RJD officials said the candidates for the remaining two constituencies are still under consideration and will be announced later.

The Legislative Council elections are significant as political parties prepare for the upcoming electoral contest in the state. The teachers' and graduates' constituencies have a distinct electorate comprising eligible members of the respective categories.

The RJD's announcement provides an early indication of its electoral preparations and comes as parties begin finalising their candidates for the upcoming Council polls.

The elections will be held for seats across the teachers' and graduates' categories, with the final schedule expected to be announced by the Election Commission.

With six candidates now declared, attention will remain on the RJD's decision regarding the two remaining seats and the candidates that other political parties may field in the constituencies.
