Rising Temperatures Ahead: Special CS Calls for Public Caution

The State government has warned of a sharp rise in temperatures over the next three months, urging people to remain cautious amid intensifying heatwave conditions. Special Chief Secretary G. Jayalakshmi , during a summer preparedness review at the RTGS office, directed departments to act in coordination and ensure timely public advisories.

With temperatures already hovering between 40°C and 42°C , officials fear a further increase in the coming days. Authorities have been instructed to disseminate early warnings and strengthen response measures.

To protect workers, employment guarantee works are to be completed before 11 a.m. , with mandatory facilities such as drinking water, buttermilk, shaded shelters, and first-aid kits at worksites.

In view of ongoing examinations, officials have been asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply and adequate drinking water at exam centres.

The government also flagged risks to livestock , directing officials to maintain water availability in villages and guide farmers on fodder management.

People have been advised to avoid going outdoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and stay hydrated with fluids and electrolyte-rich drinks .

State Disaster Management Authority Director Prakhar Jain said heatwave conditions are likely to continue until May. Emergency helplines 112, 1070, and 1800 425 0101 have been made available, while weather alerts are being issued through digital platforms.
