Rising star Mubassina powers to long jump gold with career best mark

Young long jumper Mubassina Mohammed delivered an impressive performance to win the women’s long jump gold at the fifth Indian Open Jumps Competition held at the Anju Bobby George Foundation Campus on Sunday.

The 20-year-old athlete, representing the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation, secured the top spot with a jump of 6.38 metres , which also improved her previous personal best of 6.36m.

Mubassina maintained steady form throughout the competition. Her sequence of jumps, 6.18m, 6.24m, 6.29m, 5.81m, 6.15m and finally 6.38m, showed her consistency and ability to finish strongly in the final round.

Bhavani Yadav of Railways finished second with a jump of 6.27m to take the silver medal, while Kusuma Ravada of the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation secured bronze with a distance of 6.08m.

The meet also saw competitive performances in several other events on day two. In the men’s long jump, Purushotham of Karnataka claimed gold with a leap of 7.87m, edging out Suran Payasingh of Odisha (7.78m) and Saran S of Tamil Nadu (7.77m).

In the women’s triple jump , Mallala Anusha of Andhra Pradesh topped the event with a jump of 13.18m. Aleena T Saji of Kerala finished second with 13.12m, while Nimisha Dayma of JSW took third place with 13.08m.

The Indian Open Jumps Competition, hosted at the training facility founded by former world champion Anju Bobby George, continues to provide a valuable platform for emerging athletes across the country to showcase their talent and gain competitive exposure.
