Rishabh Pant Fined ₹12 Lakh as LSG Breach IPL Over-Rate Rules Despite Win Over CSK
Even as Lucknow Super Giants celebrated a convincing seven wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings , skipper Rishabh Pant ended the night with a financial penalty after the team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL encounter.
The Indian Premier League governing body imposed a fine of ₹12 lakh on Pant under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct , which deals with minimum over-rate offences. According to an official IPL statement, this was Lucknow’s first over-rate violation of the season , resulting in the standard penalty for the captain.
Despite the sanction, the result on the field remained firmly in Lucknow’s favour. LSG produced a composed and clinical performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets on Friday, strengthening their campaign in the tournament.
Slow over-rates have continued to remain a major concern for IPL authorities in recent seasons, with the league repeatedly warning franchises to complete their quota of overs within the stipulated time. Captains are held directly accountable for delays, making them liable for fines and, in repeated cases, stricter punishments.
Pant, who has been leading Lucknow this season, has otherwise drawn praise for his aggressive leadership and calm decision-making under pressure. However, the latest penalty serves as another reminder of the league’s strict approach towards maintaining the pace of play.
While the fine may not overshadow LSG’s important victory, it does add a small blemish to what was otherwise a successful outing for the franchise against one of the IPL’s most decorated sides.
