RGV’s Rangeela set for theatre re-release on November 28
Ram Gopal Varma’s iconic film Rangeela will return to theatres on November 28, 2025, in a newly restored 4K version, bringing its vibrant music and timeless storytelling to both loyal fans and a new generation of viewers.
Originally released on February 12, 1995, the Aamir Khan-Urmila Matondkar-Jackie Shroff starrer was celebrated for its fresh take on romance, realistic characters, and A.R. Rahman’s unforgettable music. At the time, it received both critical acclaim and massive audience appreciation, with many praising its innovative cinematography and stylish song picturisation. The film became a cultural touchstone of the 90s, remembered as a trendsetter for Hindi musicals.
Reflecting on its enduring appeal, Varma said, “Some films continue to evolve long after their release, and Rangeela is one of them. Real characters outlive time, and that’s what keeps the film relatable even today.”
Ahead of the re-release, Varma expressed curiosity about how today’s youth will respond. “I can’t predict what Gen Z will think,” he said, “but the story is very relatable. It could easily happen in today’s world, and that’s why I believe they might connect.”
The re-release offers longtime fans a chance to relive the magic on the big screen, while younger audiences get an opportunity to understand why Rangeela remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated romantic musicals.
