RGV declares ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ a “New Cinematic Order” on eve of release

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has sparked widespread attention with an emphatic endorsement of the upcoming film Dhurandhar 2 , calling it a landmark moment in Indian cinema and predicting an unprecedented impact on audiences and the industry.

In a post on X, Varma described the sequel as a “SHOLAY x 100 level magnificence,” comparing its potential influence to classics such as Sholay and Mughal-e-Azam . He further claimed the film would redefine cinematic standards and even urged global filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan to watch it “first day, first show.”

The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, is the sequel to the blockbuster Dhurandhar , which released in December 2025 and grossed approximately ₹1,300 crore worldwide. Starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role , the franchise follows the journey of undercover operative Hamza Ali Mazari, navigating high-stakes counter-terrorism operations and the underworld.

Ahead of the sequel’s release, Dhar issued a public appeal requesting audiences to avoid sharing spoilers and to remain seated through the end credits. He emphasized that the film is designed for a theatrical experience, encouraging viewers to engage with its narrative collectively on the big screen.

“Let every fan walk in curious and walk out with their own experience,” Dhar said, thanking audiences for the overwhelming response to the first installment. He noted that the sequel aims to deepen emotional engagement while exploring the protagonist’s origins and rise within Karachi’s criminal networks.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge will open with paid preview screenings across India starting Wednesday evening, ahead of its official theatrical release on Thursday. The film will be released in five languages Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam broadening its pan-Indian reach.

The sequel’s release comes amid a competitive box office window, with major films such as Ustaad Bhagath Singh also vying for audience attention.With advance buzz reaching a fever pitch, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is poised to be one of the most closely watched releases of the year.
