Revanth’s Rs 30K cr plan for 'Young India' schools

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on September 10, 2025, to seek the Centre’s support for an ambitious education initiative in the state. He aims to raise ₹30,000 crore to build what he calls the Young India Integrated Residential Schools - modern boarding schools with top-notch facilities. To make this happen, he asked for two key things: approval to set up a special financing agency and a break from the state’s usual borrowing limit under the FRBM (Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management) Act. The Centre’s response was reportedly positive.

Here’s what the plan involves:

• 105 schools, one in each assembly constituency, each designed to house 2,560 students - serving about 270,000 students in total.

• Rs 21,000 crore is earmarked for constructing these campuses, and an extra Rs 9,000 crore will go towards upgrading labs, and enhancing infrastructure in higher education institutions like degree and technical colleges.

Revanth highlighted that nearly 90% of Telangana’s population - from backward communities, Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and minorities - would benefit from these “corporate-style” schools.

He also asked for debt restructuring, pointing out that the previous government had taken high-interest loans that are now a fiscal burden.

The chief minister came accompanied by a delegation of Congress MPs and state officials. Later in the day, he also met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and was scheduled to meet Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
