Revanth unveils ‘Global City’ vision for Hyderabad

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Hyderabad’s “Core Urban City Area” into a model global city. Chairing a review meeting with top officials, he stressed that the goal is not just cosmetic beautification but real improvements that raise the living standards of poor and middle-class families.

The CM said Hyderabad is expanding rapidly, with lakhs of people migrating from across Telangana and other states. To handle this growth, he directed officials to focus on five key areas - education, healthcare, infrastructure, traffic management, and public utilities.

On education, Revanth Reddy emphasized that every child must get access to quality schooling. He suggested merging smaller schools with poor facilities into modern complexes, ensuring breakfast, lunch, and snacks for students, and providing government-run transport to ease the financial burden on parents. Teacher shortages, he said, must be resolved immediately.

Healthcare was another priority. The CM ordered the setup of special clinics to give quick medical help to the poor. He also pushed for a clean and healthy Hyderabad, warning GHMC officials of strict action if garbage collection is neglected.

To strengthen governance, he said no government office should function in rented buildings, and solar power plants must be installed in schools, colleges, and offices to promote renewable energy. Lakes and ponds will be conserved, and a digital land database will be introduced to stop land encroachments.

Traffic congestion drew special attention. The CM called for modern signaling systems, drone policing, and rainwater harvesting wells at junctions to prevent flooding. He suggested aligning municipal, police, electricity, and water board zones for better coordination. Robots and machines will be used for drainage and manhole cleaning.

On tourism, the government plans to revamp Necklace Road, Indira Park, Sanjeevaiah Park, and launch “Hussain Sagar 2.0” as a world-class tourist hub with skywalks, cycle tracks, and multi-level parking. Parks will be upgraded with senior citizen-friendly walkways and children’s play areas. Special vending zones will also be set up for street vendors.

Finally, the CM announced strict steps against drug use. A rehabilitation centre will be established at Cherlapalli jail, managed with the help of ex-military officers.

Through these reforms, Revanth Reddy said, Hyderabad will not only grow but also become a livable, people-friendly global city.

Telangana’s ambitious urban development initiatives promise transformative changes, but experts caution that their success hinges on execution. Strong inter-departmental coordination, accountability, adequate funding, and consistent monitoring will determine whether citizens experience tangible improvements in their daily lives. Visible results, even in the short term, are crucial to building public trust and creating momentum for larger, long-term projects.

Urban populations are expected to respond positively to such improvements, while rural communities may see limited direct impact, making communication and rural-focused policies essential. Technology, a central component of these plans, can enhance governance and efficiency - but only if backed by proper planning, skilled personnel, maintenance, and reliable backup systems. Overreliance on technology without addressing these factors risks delays and underperformance.

Education reforms, such as merging smaller schools, could optimize resources and facilities. However, careful planning, including reliable transport and community involvement, is critical to maintaining accessibility and inclusivity. Environmental sustainability is another key focus, with lake and pond conservation poised to support long-term urban growth. Success will require strong regulations, collaborative urban design, and cooperation with developers and local communities.

The plan also offers political opportunities for the Chief Minister, but visible results and effective implementation are essential. Delays or mismanagement could erode public confidence and harm credibility.

Meanwhile, Future City Telangana, India’s first Net-Zero Greenfield Smart City, is set to cover 30,000 acres along the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways. Developed by the Future City Development Authority (FCDA), the city is designed for sustainable urban living with zero emissions, renewable energy, and smart infrastructure. Divided into residential, commercial, industrial, recreational, and green zones, Future City will feature innovation hubs for sectors such as AI, life sciences, and fintech. Strategically located near major highways and the upcoming Regional Ring Road, it aims to position Telangana as a global destination for investment, technology, and sustainable development.
