BRS general secretary and former MLC T. Jeevan Reddy has criticised Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to Maharashtra, alleging that discussions on the proposed Tummidihatti barrage failed to produce any concrete progress. He said both states remained firm on their respective proposals, with no significant breakthrough emerging from the meeting.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Jeevan Reddy expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the Chief Minister’s discussions with Maharashtra leaders. He alleged that the Telangana government had reiterated its earlier demands without securing any fresh commitments, while Maharashtra continued to maintain its existing position. According to him, the meeting had not brought the two states any closer to resolving the differences surrounding the project.

The BRS leader also questioned the Congress government’s performance in Telangana, claiming that it had failed to deliver the expected results despite spending more than 30 months in office. With two years of its tenure remaining, he alleged that the administration was showing little urgency in addressing public concerns and implementing its commitments. He further criticised the Chief Minister, suggesting that the government appeared more focused on completing its remaining term than achieving substantial progress.

Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Monday to discuss the construction of the Tummidihatti barrage across the Pranahita River, which flows along the Telangana–Maharashtra border. The meeting was convened to examine the outstanding issues surrounding the proposed irrigation infrastructure project.

The discussions took place at the Sahyadri State Guest House in Mumbai, with Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, the chief secretaries of both states and senior irrigation department officials in attendance.

During the meeting, representatives from the two states examined several key aspects of the project, including the proposed barrage structure, a proposal to increase its height, water availability and the potential impact of submergence. Various technical considerations related to construction were also discussed as part of the deliberations.

The project remains an important component of Telangana’s irrigation planning, making coordination between the two neighbouring states crucial for resolving technical and inter-state concerns. However, Jeevan Reddy’s remarks reflect the BRS leadership’s dissatisfaction with the outcome of the latest discussions, with the party maintaining that the meeting has not produced a tangible breakthrough in advancing the barrage proposal.
