Revanth Reddy Reviews Animal Welfare Measures with Maneka Gandhi

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Sunday held a key meeting with a delegation led by former Union Minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi to review measures aimed at strengthening animal welfare initiatives in the State.

The meeting was attended by IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary A. Ramakrishna Rao, commissioners of three municipal corporations under the CURE initiative, and other senior officials.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of ongoing animal welfare programmes , particularly measures to manage the stray dog population in urban areas . A detailed presentation was made on steps being taken for their care, protection, and sterilisation. Authorities noted that special drives have been launched across municipalities to control the stray dog population.

Focus on cow protection

The Chief Minister also outlined the government’s plans for cow protection , stating that comprehensive strategies have already been prepared. He said the foundation stone has been laid for a modern cow shelter at Enkepally in Rangareddy district, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities .

He further added that the government is planning to establish more goshalas across the State , particularly near temples, to strengthen cattle protection efforts.

After the meeting, Maneka Gandhi expressed satisfaction over the Telangana government’s commitment to animal welfare. She appreciated the balanced approach adopted by the government in addressing issues related to stray animals while ensuring public convenience.

She also remarked that the construction of modern goshalas could serve as a model for other states . The delegation suggested that the government should further intensify efforts to curb cruelty against animals and improve basic facilities such as fodder supply .
