Revanth Reddy Mandates 50% CSR Spending Within Telangana
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed that at least 50% of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of industries and corporate companies operating in the state be spent within Telangana . He expressed strong dissatisfaction that the state currently accounts for only 3% of total CSR expenditure nationwide .
During a high-level review meeting held on Thursday , the Chief Minister issued key directions to officials on improving the utilisation of CSR funds. He questioned why companies set up in Telangana were spending their CSR allocations elsewhere, stating that the inflow of CSR funds to the state has not met expectations . He emphasised the need to ensure that companies operating in Telangana allocate a larger share of CSR spending within the state .
Noting the relatively low CSR inflow from the industrial sector, the Chief Minister instructed officials to formulate a dedicated policy to effectively mobilise and utilise these funds. As part of this initiative, the government will establish a special web portal to act as a bridge between the government and corporate entities. The portal will list CSR-eligible projects across various government departments , enabling better coordination of corporate social initiatives. Additionally, a state-level ‘CSR Cell’ will be set up to streamline and monitor these activities.
The Chief Minister also decided to encourage companies contributing to the state’s development . During the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations in June , companies and their representatives providing the highest CSR contributions will be felicitated .
Study of other states’ strategies
He directed officials to study strategies adopted by other states that are successfully attracting higher CSR funds and to adopt innovative approaches suited to Telangana’s needs.
Emphasising shared responsibility, the Chief Minister stated that companies generating wealth in Telangana must also contribute to social development , particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure . Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and heads of various departments, attended the meeting.
