Revanth questions Modi over inaction against KCR, KTR in scams

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed a corner meeting at Paramount Colony during the campaign for the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency by-election. He targeted BJP and BRS leaders, accusing them of corruption and favoritism.

CM Revanth questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not allow action against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) in the Kaleshwaram scam and BRS working president KTR in the Formula E-race scam. “The Modi government conducts IT, CBI, and ED raids on political rivals but protected BRS leaders involved in big scams,” he said.

He criticized Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for ignoring the state government’s demand for a CBI inquiry into KCR, who allegedly misused one lakh crore rupees in the Kaleshwaram project, and claimed that the Governor prevented KTR’s arrest in the Formula E-race case. CM Revanth also accused the BJP of seeking votes in the name of BRS in Jubilee Hills and opposed Kishan Reddy’s resistance to inducting M Azharuddin, a minority leader, into the state cabinet.

Reiterating his commitment to minorities, especially Muslims, CM Revanth said, “BRS has been cheating the Muslims. I have always been a secular leader. Congress governments have given many opportunities and big posts to minorities. Congress means Muslims, and Muslims mean Congress.” He noted that he had won the Kodangal assembly seat three times with minority support and assured the public that minorities faced no issues during Congress rule in the state.

Political analysts say Revanth’s allegations could influence voter sentiment in Jubilee Hills by highlighting corruption and portraying Congress as accountable and minority-friendly. His remarks may consolidate support among minorities while polarizing the electorate against the ruling BRS-BJP alliance.

Targeting KCR and KTR also reflects Congress’s broader strategy of challenging BRS dominance and positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of future state and national elections. Legally, any CBI probe into sitting leaders would have required special permissions and could have created tensions between state and central governments, affecting governance. Even without investigations, Revanth’s statements are aimed at raising doubts about BRS leadership and emphasizing accountability.

Observers say the Jubilee Hills by-election will be an important test of voter response to Congress’s messaging, its minority outreach, and its efforts to challenge the opposition party in Telangana.
