
Retired teacher couple murdered in Rajasthan, 4 detained, robbery angle suspected
An elderly couple was allegedly beaten to death with iron rods inside their residence in Rajasthan’s Beawar district, police said, adding that four suspects, including two minors, have been detained in connection with the crime.
The victims, Vinod Kumar Sharma (68) and his wife Purnima Sharma (65) both retired school teachers were alone at home when the incident occurred. Their son, a software engineer based in Gurugram, was out of the city at the time.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ratan Singh, preliminary investigation suggests robbery as the likely motive . “Prima facie, the couple appears to have been murdered with the intention of loot,” he said.
The crime came to light on Sunday evening under unusual circumstances. Neighbours grew suspicious after noticing water continuously flowing out of the couple’s house . They alerted a relative, who, along with locals, entered the premises and discovered the couple lying in a blood-soaked condition .
Police said an iron rod was recovered from the scene, believed to be the weapon used in the murder . A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Ajmer, was called in to collect crucial evidence, while CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to trace the sequence of events and identify the accused.
The couple’s son rushed back to Beawar on Sunday night after being informed of the incident.
Police confirmed that the postmortem examination is underway , and further details are expected as the investigation progresses. Authorities are also probing whether the accused were known to the victims and how they gained access to the house.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns over the safety of elderly residents living alone.
