Retired officer’s viral post sparks uproar in Bengaluru

A social media post by a retired officer has sent shockwaves through the Bengaluru City Police Department, exposing alleged harassment and bribery by police personnel and government staff. The man claimed that after his daughter’s death, he was forced to pay bribes at every step. Following the viral post, authorities immediately took action and suspended a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and a constable from the Bellandur Police Station.

Father’s Painful Account Shivakumar K., who retired as Chief Financial Officer of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), shared his ordeal in an emotional LinkedIn post. He revealed that his 34-year-old daughter had died of a brain hemorrhage, but instead of receiving support, he was repeatedly harassed for money.

In his post, Shivakumar alleged that he had to pay bribes for almost everything — from arranging an ambulance and obtaining an FIR copy to performing the funeral and even getting the death certificate from municipal staff. He accused the Bellandur police officers of demanding bribes and behaving arrogantly.

“I had the money, so I paid. But what about the poor — how will they survive such humiliation?” he wrote, expressing anguish over the corruption he encountered.

Public Outcry and Police Response The post quickly went viral, drawing widespread outrage. Netizens tagged Bengaluru Police and the Whitefield DCP’s official X (Twitter) handle, demanding strict action against those responsible. Responding swiftly, the Whitefield DCP’s office announced that a detailed investigation had been ordered and assured that legal action would be taken against the guilty officers.
