“Respect His Legacy”: Bishnoi Issues Ultimatum to BJP Over Bhajan Lal Remarks

A fresh controversy has erupted within the BJP in Haryana, with senior leader Kuldeep Bishnoi demanding an apology from party Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma over alleged remarks against former chief minister Bhajan Lal . What began as a campaign comment during recent civic polls in Panchkula has now grown into a politically sensitive issue , drawing in both party leadership and community sentiments .

The controversy stems from statements reportedly made by Sharma during campaigning, which were perceived as disrespectful towards Bhajan Lal, a prominent figure in Haryana politics. The remarks triggered immediate backlash from the Bishnoi community, which sought an apology, turning the issue into a matter of both political and social concern .

Responding sharply, Bishnoi released a strongly worded video message defending his father’s legacy. He described Bhajan Lal as “not just a name, but an institution,” and said his contributions to public life and governance could not be undermined. Bishnoi framed the issue as one of dignity and respect , warning that attempts to question such a legacy would not be tolerated.

In a significant escalation, Bishnoi also criticised Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli , alleging that he too had referred to Bhajan Lal without due respect. This widened the scope of the controversy, suggesting deeper unease within sections of the state unit.

Despite the intensity of the remarks, the BJP has so far not issued any official statement on the matter. The absence of a clear response from the party leadership has added to the uncertainty, even as Bishnoi has demanded either a direct apology from Sharma or disciplinary action against her.

Bishnoi, who joined the BJP in 2022 after leaving the Congress, also underlined his own political contribution, claiming that his support played a role in strengthening the party in Haryana. He warned that if the issue is not addressed, it may not remain confined, signalling possible escalation .
