Resilient supply chains key to India’s security:Goyal

India is actively strengthening self-reliance and building resilient supply chains to safeguard its economic and strategic interests amid global trade disruptions, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the curtain-raiser for the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam, Goyal emphasized that India is working on “atma-nirbharta” (self-reliance), robust capabilities, and end-to-end value chains to ensure the country is not vulnerable to trade weaponisation. His remarks come in the wake of the US imposing a 50% tariff on Indian goods since August 27, highlighting the need for supply chain independence.

Goyal also stressed that self-confidence and strategic planning will help India achieve big goals while fulfilling international obligations.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the state’s investment-friendly initiatives, including aerospace, electronics, drone cities, and the upcoming quantum valley in Amaravati. He pointed out that Google is setting up a world-class data center in Visakhapatnam, while ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India plans a Rs 1.35 lakh crore steel plant, and BPCL eyes Rs 1 lakh crore in petrochemicals.

Naidu added that the state is focusing on renewable energy, green hydrogen, green ammonia, world-class ports, and logistic hubs, signaling huge opportunities for investors amid global economic volatility.
