Rescue cell formed to help Telugus in Nepal

In response to the ongoing civil unrest in Nepal, the Andhra Pradesh government has set up an Emergency Cell at Andhra Bhavan in New Delhi to assist Telugu citizens stranded in the country. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed Union Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Andhra Bhavan officials to ensure round-the-clock support for those affected. The cell is coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, providing immediate assistance like food, accommodation, and medical aid to around 30 Telugu citizens in Bafal, Kathmandu. Officials are also monitoring situations where families faced threats outside hotels, relocating them to safer guest houses.

The Emergency Cell has a dedicated nodal officer and works closely with the Ministry of External Affairs to track developments and safeguard Telugu nationals. This step reflects a proactive approach to citizen safety abroad, ensuring that stranded individuals have access to essential help during uncertain times. The Andhra government has emphasized that the cell operates 24/7, maintaining constant communication with embassy officials and local contacts in Nepal.

Other states have taken similar steps in the past during crises. For example, Kerala had set up help desks for its citizens during Middle East conflicts, while Tamil Nadu has activated emergency support for its workers during natural disasters abroad. These measures underscore a growing trend where states are supplementing central efforts to protect their people overseas, providing faster, localized support that is often crucial in emergencies.

By combining government coordination, embassy support, and real-time monitoring, Andhra Pradesh aims to ensure that its citizens in Nepal remain safe and cared for, even amid unpredictable civil unrest.
