Renowned Kerala Journalist K G Parameswaran Nair Dies at 94

Veteran journalist, author and noted Legislative Assembly correspondent K G Parameswaran Nair passed away at his residence in Thrikkannapuram, Thiruvananthapuram , on Wednesday following age-related ailments . He was 94.

A towering figure in Malayalam journalism, Nair spent more than 35 years with Kerala Kaumudi and was widely credited with transforming the style of Assembly reporting through analytical depth and political insight. Before joining Kerala Kaumudi, he had also worked with Kaumudi Weekly .

Known for his authoritative coverage of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Nair’s reports became reference material for legislators, journalists and political observers. He also played an active role in journalists’ organisations, serving as president of the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club and contributing to the Kerala Union of Working Journalists .

Apart from journalism, he authored several books, including the acclaimed ‘Kerala Niyamasabha: Charithravum Dharmavum’ , which documented the history and functioning of the Assembly.

Nair received numerous honours during his career, including the prestigious 2021 Swadeshabhimani Award , Pattom Thanu Pillai Award and the G Karthikeyan Memorial Award for Assembly reporting. Reports noted that some of his honours were presented by former Presidents K R Narayanan and A P J Abdul Kalam .

V D Satheesan condoled his death, describing him as a journalist who understood the “depth and expanse” of Assembly reporting and transformed legislative journalism in Kerala.

Nair is survived by his wife Subhadramma and daughters Rajeshwari and Suja .
