Relief for Jogi Ramesh’s Brothers in Spurious Liquor Case

After spending 83 days in jail in connection with the spurious liquor case , the brothers of former minister Jogi Ramesh were released from prison following the grant of bail . Former MLAs Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao and Malladi Vishnu , along with Penamaluru party in-charge Devabhaktuni Chakravarthy , party leaders , and activists , extended a warm welcome upon their release.

Speaking to the media after coming out of jail, former minister Jogi Ramesh alleged that false cases were filed against him and his brother, leading to their incarceration for 83 days . He claimed that his family was harassed and that cases were even registered against his wife and children .

“These cases and arrests cannot intimidate us . I will continue public service with renewed determination ,” he asserted.

Taking a strong political stand, Jogi Ramesh remarked, “Lokesh, fold up your red book. There is no one who is afraid of your threats.” The release of Jogi Ramesh’s brothers generated enthusiasm within party circles , with party workers and supporters expressing happiness.

Case Background

Former minister Jogi Ramesh and his brother Jogi Ramu were arrested by Excise Department and Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials on November 3, 2025 , in connection with the spurious liquor case . The duo were taken from their residence for questioning and later remanded to judicial custody . They were booked under charges related to the illegal manufacture, transportation, and sale of liquor . Since their arrest, Jogi Ramesh had remained in jail .

While bail was earlier denied due to the ongoing investigation and preliminary evidence submitted by the probing agencies, the court granted them relief after nearly 83 days in judicial custody .

Liquor Scam Probe Intensifies

Meanwhile, investigation agencies have intensified the probe into the spurious liquor scam . As part of the investigation, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials questioned MP Vijayasai Reddy (A5) for nearly six hours on January 22 and summoned him again on January 24 .

MP Mithun Reddy was also questioned for around six hours on January 23 from a money laundering angle. He had earlier been arrested and was released on bail on September 30 .

While Jogi Ramesh and his brother were released on January 23, 2026 , leaders such as Avinash Reddy and Raj Kasi Reddy remain under the scanner of investigating agencies . The SIT and ED estimate that the scam involves corruption worth approximately ₹3,500 crore and are actively probing allegations related to fund diversion and hawala transactions .
