‘Release TRE-4 Notification in 24 Hours’: Bihar Aspirants Threaten Escalation

Job aspirants and research scholars protesting in Bihar’s capital have demanded that the government issue the notification for the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) within 24 hours, warning of intensified protests if their demand is not met.

The protesters, who have been demonstrating in Patna’s Gardanibagh area, said they could gherao the residence of Bihar’s Education Minister and seek his resignation if the notification was not released within the stipulated deadline.

Student leader Dilip Kumar said the government should immediately announce the TRE-4 schedule. He also warned that protesters could launch a hunger strike within three days if their demand remained unaddressed.

One of the protesters, Kumud Patel, has already been on hunger strike for the past 15 days, according to the demonstrators. The agitation, however, extends beyond the TRE-4 notification. Protesters are raising several concerns related to Bihar’s recruitment and examination system, including new rules for assistant professor recruitment, alleged inconsistencies in the state civil services examination and a demand for greater transparency in BSSC recruitments.

They are also seeking a single-tier examination system for BPSC TRE-4, strict action against candidates who allegedly secured government jobs through corrupt practices and measures against those accused of operating examination mafias. Student leader Kundan Singh said a delegation of protesters recently held discussions with Higher Education Minister Sanjay Singh Tiger and Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar. However, he claimed that the officials failed to provide satisfactory answers to their questions.

Singh urged the Bihar government to take the protests seriously and cited recent demonstrations in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and Jharkhand as examples of movements that could grow if grievances remain unresolved. “When teachers and students are both on the streets, it is clear that something is going wrong in Bihar’s education policy,” Singh said, calling for meaningful dialogue between the government and protesters.

The protesters have indicated that the agitation could intensify unless their demands, particularly the TRE-4 notification, are addressed promptly.
