Reels for Recognition: Mulugu Launches Unique Tourism Promotion Contest
In a major attempt to strengthen the digital promotion of Mulugu district’s tourism sector , the district administration has launched an innovative “Influencer Reels Competition” aimed at showcasing the region’s scenic beauty, cultural richness, and heritage landmarks to wider national and international audiences through social media platforms.
The initiative is being organised as part of the ongoing 99-day Prajapalana Pragathi Pranalika Tourism Week celebrations , with officials hoping to use the growing reach of digital creators and influencers to position Mulugu as one of Telangana’s leading eco-tourism destinations.
Announcing the programme on Monday, District Collector Borkhade Hemant Sahadeva Rao said the competition would provide a platform for creators to produce engaging short-form video content highlighting the district’s tourism potential. A special interaction with influencers, media representatives, and content creators has been scheduled for May 21 at 11 am at the Collectorate Conference Hall to discuss participation guidelines and promotional plans.
The competition has been opened to influencers, vloggers, social media handlers, media professionals, and digital content creators from across Telangana. Participants have been asked to create 4K-quality reels focusing on Mulugu’s tourist attractions, natural landscapes, tribal culture, and heritage destinations.
Over the past few years, Mulugu has emerged as a key tourism hub in Telangana, attracting visitors with destinations such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ramappa Temple , the picturesque Bogatha Waterfall , popularly known as the “Niagara of Telangana,” and the scenic Laknavaram Lake . Dense forest stretches and tribal cultural heritage have also become important attractions for nature and adventure tourists.
Officials believe the reels competition can significantly enhance the district’s online visibility and help attract younger travellers who increasingly rely on social media content while planning trips.
To encourage participation, the administration has announced cash prizes of Rs 21,000 , Rs 15,000 , and Rs 10,000 for the top three winners respectively. The winners will be officially announced on June 2 .
Interestingly, officials said even non-winning entries with strong visual storytelling could be featured through collaborative posts on the district administration’s official social media handles, giving creators wider exposure.
Participants can submit their entries between May 21 and May 30 before 5 pm either directly through pen drives at the District Public Relations Office or online via WhatsApp to designated officials.
