The Mercedes driver produced a sensational final lap to clock the fastest time, finishing 0.317 seconds ahead of Verstappen and strengthening his bid in the Formula 1 championship race.

For much of the session, Verstappen appeared on course for pole after Red Bull executed a clever slipstream strategy. Teammate Isack Hadjar ran ahead of the Dutchman to provide the ideal aerodynamic tow, helping Verstappen record what initially looked like an unbeatable lap.

However, Antonelli responded in spectacular fashion. Finding remarkable pace in the decisive moments, the young Italian delivered a flawless lap to snatch pole from the reigning world champion and leave the Spa crowd in awe.

Lando Norris qualified third fastest but will serve a 10-place grid penalty , dropping him down the starting order for Sunday's race. The penalty promotes Antonelli's Mercedes teammate George Russell to third on the provisional grid.
