Red Bull or Shock Move? Verstappen's Latest Statement Fuels F1 Transfer Frenzy

Four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen has once again kept the Formula One paddock guessing over his future, refusing to confirm whether he will remain with Red Bull beyond the current season while making it clear that his relationship with team principal Laurent Mekies is stronger than ever.

Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix , Verstappen declined to end speculation linking him with a move away from Red Bull despite being under contract until 2028 . The Dutch driver has recently been linked with McLaren , while earlier this year he also hinted that he had considered walking away from Formula One.

Verstappen said he did not want to make promises about his future, adding that if there were any developments regarding his plans, he would announce them himself rather than respond to rumours.

Even as questions over his future continue, Verstappen had nothing but praise for Mekies, who took charge of Red Bull after replacing Christian Horner midway through the 2025 season. The reigning champion described their relationship as "really good," saying they regularly discuss matters both on and off the circuit.

He added that the atmosphere within the team remains positive, with open and transparent communication helping everyone work together more effectively. Verstappen said he was happy with the way Mekies leads the team and the trust they have built over the past year.

Red Bull has also decided to revert to its previous rear-wing design for this weekend's race after issues with a newer rotating rear wing contributed to Verstappen's crashes in Austria and Britain . Following his retirement at Silverstone, he had labelled the car "dangerous" over team radio after struggling to control it.

Speculation surrounding Verstappen's future intensified following reports of a meeting between his management and McLaren. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently suggested the team's current driver pairing of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is expected to remain unchanged, cooling talk of a blockbuster switch.

Verstappen has also emerged as one of the strongest critics of Formula One's 2026 regulations , arguing that the greater reliance on electrical power could make the cars less enjoyable to drive and encourage artificial overtaking.

For now, the Dutch star remains focused on the championship battle, but until he publicly commits his future, speculation over Formula One's biggest name is likely to continue.
