Record procurement of Kharif paddy in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh has achieved record progress in Kharif paddy procurement this season, Civil Supplies Minister Naraendra Manohar said on Thursday. Within just 15 days of the procurement season opening, the state has already transported 1.7 lakh tonnes of rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), which he termed a significant milestone.
In a statement, the minister said that paddy procurement is moving at an unprecedented pace across all districts. On December 10 alone, the state purchased 1.4 lakh tonnes of paddy, marking one of the highest single-day procurements of the season. So far, more than 20 lakh tonnes of paddy have been purchased from 3.5 lakh farmers, with ₹4,600 crore directly credited to farmers’ bank accounts.
With large volumes of paddy arriving at procurement centers, the government has deployed around 32,000 vehicles - including lorries, tractors, mini-tractors, and special trains - to ensure quick movement to mills and FCI godowns.
Due to heavy yields, recent rains, and the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, the government has taken emergency measures in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, and Bapatla. In Krishna district alone, 106 rice mills have been granted inter-district transport permissions to expedite processing.
The minister emphasized that the government’s priority is to maintain a transparent and closely monitored procurement system. Strict checks are being enforced on millers, he said, adding that logistics are being strengthened to ensure rapid movement of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) to FCI.
He urged farmers to participate confidently in the procurement process, assuring them of timely payments and smooth operations.
