Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered a statement performance in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026 , crushing Gujarat Titans (GT) by 92 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala to storm into their second consecutive IPL final. In a high-pressure playoff clash between two of the season’s strongest sides, RCB completely dominated with both bat and ball, reinforcing their credentials as favourites to retain the IPL crown.

RCB posted a mammoth 254/5 in 20 overs , the highest total ever recorded in IPL playoff history , before bowling Gujarat out for 162 in 19.3 overs . The victory marked one of the most comprehensive wins in a knockout match and highlighted the transformation of Bengaluru into a balanced and fearless T20 side.

Captain Rajat Patidar led from the front with a breathtaking unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls , an innings packed with nine sixes and five boundaries . Patidar’s stunning strike rate of over 280 dismantled Gujarat’s bowling attack and shifted the momentum decisively in RCB’s favour. The skipper, who was named Player of the Match , played only one dot ball during his explosive knock.

RCB’s innings had already gained momentum through a rapid start from Virat Kohli , who scored a fluent 43 off 25 balls. Kohli’s aggressive approach during the powerplay helped Bengaluru race ahead early, while contributions from Devdutt Padikkal and Krunal Pandya ensured the pressure never eased on Gujarat. Even after brief breakthroughs from Jason Holder and Rashid Khan , GT failed to contain RCB’s relentless batting depth.

In reply, Gujarat Titans suffered an early collapse under scoreboard pressure. Captain Shubman Gill fell cheaply, while GT slumped to 51/5 inside the powerplay after disciplined spells from Bhuvneshwar Kumar , Josh Hazlewood , and Rasikh Salam Dar . Although Rahul Tewatia fought back with a spirited 68, the chase was effectively over long before the final wicket fell.

The victory has intensified discussions around whether RCB can achieve the rare feat of winning back-to-back IPL titles . Having already topped the league stage and now producing a dominant playoff performance, Bengaluru appear mentally stronger and tactically sharper than previous RCB teams that often struggled in knockout matches.

With direct qualification to the final providing additional recovery time, RCB now stand just one win away from creating franchise history and establishing themselves as the IPL’s newest powerhouse.
