Real Kashmir Take on Nagaland United as Indian Football League Returns with Full Season
The Indian Football League (IFL) 2026-27 kicks off on Friday with former champions Real Kashmir FC taking on debutants Nagaland United SC in Srinagar. The new season marks the return of a full home-and-away format, giving clubs more opportunities to play in front of their home supporters.
Real Kashmir, popularly known as the Snow Leopards, will be looking for a strong start after a difficult previous campaign. The team finished in the lower half of the initial league phase last season and entered the relegation stage but managed to retain its place under head coach Ishfaq Ahmed, who will continue to lead the side.
Ishfaq said his team was prepared for the challenge and wanted to play aggressive football at home. He also urged supporters to attend matches with their families, highlighting that the club would have 10 home fixtures this season.
For Nagaland United, the match marks a historic moment. Founded in 2024 in Chumoukedima, near Dimapur, the club has reached the national league within two years, ending Nagaland’s 78-year wait for representation in the competition.
The club acquired Aizawl FC’s sporting rights through a goodwill agreement approved by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on September 9.
Young coach Kaizad Ambapardiwalla, who previously guided Jamshedpur FC to the Durand Cup quarterfinals, will lead the team, with defender Rohmingthanga as captain.
Real Kashmir have lost last season’s captain Mohammad Inam to Punjab FC but have strengthened their attack with experienced striker Marcus Joseph.
Both sides will be eager to begin their campaigns with a victory.
