RE strengthens grip on mid-size segment with record October sales
Iconic motorcycle maker Royal Enfield has reported robust growth in its October sales, marking another milestone in its expanding dominance within India’s mid-size motorcycle segment. The company, part of Eicher Motors Ltd, recorded a 13% year-on-year increase in total sales to 124,951 units, up from 110,574 units in October last year signaling strengthening consumer sentiment and a clear shift toward premium and lifestyle two-wheelers.
Domestic sales surged 15% to 116,844 units, driven by strong demand during the festive season and a widening customer base across Tier-II and Tier-III cities. However, exports slipped by 7%, standing at 8,107 units compared to 8,688 units a year earlier, reflecting temporary logistical constraints and currency fluctuations in some international markets.
Industry analysts said Royal Enfield’s domestic growth underlines its deep brand connect and consistent product strategy. “Royal Enfield continues to consolidate its leadership in the 250cc–750cc motorcycle category, commanding well over 80% market share in the segment,” said a Mumbai-based auto analyst with a leading brokerage. “New launches like the Hunter 350 and Himalayan 450 have successfully attracted younger and adventure-focused riders, helping the brand sustain its aspirational positioning.”
Eicher Motors Managing Director and Royal Enfield CEO B. Govindarajan said the company’s festive performance has been its strongest ever. “With over 2.49 lakh motorcycles sold during September and October, our best-ever festive performance, we have achieved a milestone that speaks volumes about our momentum and the unwavering love riders have for the brand,” he stated.
The company’s market share gains come amid an overall revival in the motorcycle market, supported by rural recovery, easier financing, and consumer upgrades toward higher-capacity bikes. Analysts also noted that the brand’s growing network, strong after-sales service, and sustained marketing around the ‘pure motorcycling’ lifestyle have bolstered its position against rivals like Jawa-Yezdi and Honda’s CB series.
On the global front, Royal Enfield has been expanding its retail footprint across Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, even as exports temporarily slowed in October. The company’s international strategy continues to focus on premium mid-size motorcycles tailored for diverse road conditions and riding cultures.
Going forward, industry experts expect Royal Enfield’s upcoming launches including the new Bullet 650 and electric motorcycle platform to further solidify its leadership in the evolving mid-size motorcycle market, both in India and globally.
