What should have been a night of celebration following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) historic IPL triumph turned chaotic in parts of Hyderabad, forcing police to intervene and disperse unruly crowds. The disturbances broke out after thousands of fans took to the streets to celebrate RCB's successful defense of the IPL 2026 title , leading to traffic disruptions, public nuisance, and ultimately a mild lathi charge by police.

RCB clinched their second consecutive championship with a convincing five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. The win further cemented the franchise's rise from perennial underachievers to one of the league's most successful teams. Led by captain Rajat Patidar and inspired by the enduring popularity of Virat Kohli , the Bengaluru-based franchise has built one of the largest fan bases in Indian cricket.

The celebrations extended far beyond Karnataka, with Hyderabad witnessing particularly large gatherings. Hundreds of supporters assembled near the State Secretariat , KPHB Colony , Madhapur , and Gachibowli , waving RCB flags, chanting slogans, and celebrating late into the night. While Hyderabad is home to Sunrisers Hyderabad , cricket observers say RCB's nationwide popularity, fueled by star players and a loyal fan culture, has attracted followers across India, especially among younger fans and IT professionals.

However, the celebrations soon spiraled out of control. Videos circulating on social media showed groups of youngsters blocking roads, bursting firecrackers in traffic, performing bike stunts, and climbing police barricades. Authorities said the reckless behavior created serious inconvenience for commuters and raised public safety concerns.

Police personnel initially attempted to persuade the crowds to disperse peacefully. When repeated warnings went unheeded and traffic movement was severely affected, officers resorted to a mild lathi charge to clear the roads and restore order. The action quickly dispersed the crowds, though tensions briefly prevailed in the affected areas.

Senior police officials later confirmed that cases had been registered against 17 individuals under the jurisdiction of KPHB Police Station for allegedly creating public nuisance, including incidents involving alcohol consumption. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and viral videos to identify others involved.

Police emphasized that while celebrating sporting achievements is welcome, actions that disrupt public life, endanger safety, or violate the law will invite strict legal consequences.
