Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has become the first cricket team in the world to surpass a brand value of USD 300 million, according to the 2026 Brand Valuation Report released by global investment bank Houlihan Lokey on July 29. The milestone comes as the Indian Premier League (IPL) continues its rapid commercial growth, with its business enterprise value rising 11.4% year-on-year to USD 20.6 billion.

The report said the IPL's stand-alone brand value also increased 10.3% to USD 4.3 billion, adding more than USD 1.1 billion in brand value since 2023. RCB retained the top spot among IPL franchises with a brand value of USD 312 million, marking a 16% increase from USD 269 million in 2025.

Mumbai Indians ranked second with a brand value of USD 264 million, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders at USD 245 million and Chennai Super Kings at USD 244 million.

The study also highlighted major ownership transactions that reinforced the league's commercial appeal. RCB was acquired by a consortium comprising Blackstone, Bolt Ventures, Aditya Birla Group, and Times of India Group at a reported valuation of USD 1.78 billion, while Rajasthan Royals changed hands at a reported valuation of USD 1.65 billion.

The report underscored the IPL's expanding digital footprint. Citing official broadcaster JioStar, it noted that the 2026 season reached 1.06 billion screens, with overall viewership rising 7% year-on-year. Connected TV emerged as the fastest-growing platform, recording a 26% increase in reach, even as linear television ratings declined 18.8%.

According to the study, the league generated more than USD 1.8 billion in total revenue during the season through digital growth, premium partnerships, and media rights. Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia said the IPL's rapid rise has attracted institutional investors, created careers, inspired new sporting leagues, and established franchise brands with enduring global appeal.
